4th of July Outfit of the Day {Maxi Skirt and Printed Wedges}

I realized when trying to pick out an outfit for today that I have hardly any red in my closet! I'm going to have to remedy that.

Anyway, I opted for a two-tiered blue maxi skirt. The top tier is a flowing,  pleated sheer layer and underneath is a solid, fitted skirt that hits just above the knee.

I paired it with a solid white tank, short sleeved lightweight white sweater and my cherry print canvas wedges from H&M.

Weekend Style {Stripes, Studs + Lace}

I've been on a mission to add more color to my wardrobe. I'm 100% guilty of defaulting to black sweaters and skinny jeans. So you can imagine my excitement when I found lots of colorful pieces at the Old Navy outlet sale. One of the things I picked up was this green and beige striped, long-sleeved, light-weight sweater. The green fits in perfectly with this season's bright colors trend, while the neutral beige tones it down for everyday wear. 

When styling this, I knew that I wanted to play with patterns and textures. I paired the knit top with a pair of black Jessica Simpson Kiss Me Jeggings. Then I layered on a cream-colored gauze scarf with lace edging from Wet Seal. The contrast of the cream against the sweater made both items pop. I added a little edge to balance out the lace with this studded envelope clutch by Lulu from Nordstrom. I finished the look with a pair of green braided sandals from Wet Seal and some basic aviators.

Outfit of the Day {Maxi Dress + Ruffled Sandals}

It was a cool day here in Maryland, so layers were perfect for browsing the flea market this morning before having a yummy Cinco de Mayo dinner.

Experimenting with Polyvore: Spring Style

I finally started using Polyvore this week. Here's a peak of my first set. It's a flirty hi-lo floral print dress that's perfect for spring. I styled it two ways: first for the work week, then for the weekend. For this look I was focusing on inspiration and items that just appealed to me. You'll notice that some of the items are from brands that are easy to find and at reasonable price points, while others are rarer or definitely on the luxury side. Either way, I think that these are pieces that are easy to swap with items that you already own or with affordable alternatives floating around the stores right now. In the future, my plan is to style the look using my dream pieces and then show how to recreate in a budget-friendly way.
